Furnishing your Dining Room

Whether you have a separate dining room, a kitchen-diner, or even a small dining table in the hallway, it can be daunting trying to find the perfect dining furniture for you. Here are some helpful tips and ideas:

Select your dining table depending on the shape of your dining area. A square room's edges can be softened by a round table, or given a modern look with a square table. Rectangular dining tables are wonderful for larger families, people who entertain often, or doing double duty as an extra workspace.

Don't feel you have to match your dining room chairs exactly. Mixing different styles - as long as they are similar in height and color- can add a lot of personality to your dining space.

Make sure to leave from 36 to 40 inches as your chair pullback space around your dining table.

If your dining area shares a space with an open-plan kitchen, consider "symbolically" separating the spaces with area rugs or a beautiful dividing screen. Lighting can also work wonders here: use brighter, task lighting in your kitchen, and ambient lighting in your dining area.
